Come with us for a ride in our hood. This is the Glebe Foreshore Bike Path, with new and improved paths and lighting thanks to the City Of Sydney using taxpayer's dollars wisely. Enjoy!

Surry Hills Chic
This Saturday the Feather Brigade finally met up with those stylish ladies from Cycle Chic Sydney. Saskia, Sydney's Cycle Chic ambassador, organized a ride through Surry Hills and we we're more than happy to attend.
There was such a great turn out. Fellow blogger and anti-helmet law advocate Sue was there as well as people from Sydney Cycleways, Sydney Vintage Bikes, City of Sydney; even everyone's favourite Lord Mayor, Clover Moore turned up to show her support.

We started at Tokyo Bike, where free bike checks and little magnetic silicone leaves were on offer, then headed down Bourke St (using the cycleways when available) to Remy and Lee's and Bourke St Bakery. We stopped for lunch and photo opportunities then moved onto I Ran the Wrong Way, before we turned around to head back to the Beresford Hotel for a drink and a chat.
It was a lovely slow ride with lots of lovely people through a great little stretch of Surry Hills. And it was a beautiful warm day. It couldn't get more perfect!
We also had a new member of Feather Brigade along for the Ride. L and her gorgeous bike George Micheal. Not only does she have a bike but also a Holga. She's like the sister we never had (if K-star and I were sisters to start with...) Either way we were more than happy to welcome her into the Feather Brigade, and then make her pose for bizarre pictures.

Small Stories
Cameras and Bikes are great friends. Lomo cameras, like our Holgas (K-star's Holgagarde and my Holgalina), especially like to hang out with bikes, documenting the various adventures we get up to with their 120 film lovely-ness. When we head out for a ride, you can be assured that we'll have a large handful of cameras with us.
You may understand then, why we were so excited when we heard about Small Stories-Big Picture, an event for Sydney Design 2010 which combined these two loves of ours.
The tag line for the event is "A Bike Tour with a Difference". You could BYO bike and camera, or borrow one of the lovely Gofa bikes provided by Clarence Street Cyclery and one of the various types of Lomos available. We turned up at Cloth Fabric Store to collect our little guide books of Surry Hills the first weekend of the event. The guide featured a map for some lovely little stores, boutiques and cafes. The idea is to ride slow, visit the recommended stores along the route, and snap shots of lovely scenic, atmospheric Surry Hills.
Some of the best recommended stops were Cloth Fabric, where the ride started (the girls there were so nice and really enthusiastic), Bird Textile, I Ran the Wrong Way (both were so excited about the bike event), Reverse Garbage Taylor Square, Sparkle Cupcake (yum), Icarus Store, Metalab (inspiring stuff) and we finished the day with a glass of wine and olives at Vini. Perfect!
This Wednesday (the 18th Aug), the Beresford Hotel, another stop recommended in the tour, is hosting the closing night drinks for the Small Stories exhibit. The photos developed by the borrowed cameras and those uploaded by those with their own cameras will be on display and the Lomo cameras used in the event will be up for raffle (Oh me, oh my... i want the 9 shot, or the 360 camera, or the shiny chrome 35mm... or- all of them). I highly recommend turning up and having a drink, checking out the photos and hanging with the cool people who organized and took part in the bike tour.
Here's some of ours (some have been 'polarized', but it's all in the spirit of the thing...)

Saturday Park Rides
Today was probably one of the most gorgeous winter days we've had in Sydney in a long while. And it was especially fine because i spent most of the day on two wheels.
K and I were off to Glebe markets to find $5 gems, and meet a friend, L. We headed to Victoria Park with scrumptious goats cheese and rosemary scones from a new bakery down the road, and tried to convince L that she needed to get a bike. Next stop was Cheeky Transport in Newtown, via Sydney Uni, then back through Glebe to Wentworth Park. We made our way home via Glebe Point waterfront.
It was an action packed day. L had a beautiful old fashioned Diana camera, K had an app on her iphone that gave photos that "Lomo" look, and there were costume changes and lovely scenery along the way. Expect a few more posts from today's photos.
